Mission

As an organization founded and led by a person with experience of incarceration, we have a meaningful understanding of the barriers that face those with legal histories. We believe the only successful approach to reintegration is holistic, and are committed to providing material and professional resources, as well as socio-emotional support. Transformation requires that practical needs are met, but can only occur when the whole person is engaged.

As inmates look forward to their release, we commit to helping individuals gain skills that improve their decisionmaking, planning and job or career prospects. After release we provide safe housing and supplies that enable a confident personal presentation and a successful job search. We then maintain an ongoing presence that enables personal and professional support as needed.

Anyone who has spent time in prison has experienced trauma, but many who serve time have significant histories of trauma and relational wounds prior to their prison experience. We enter into the healing and growth that is required of many of our participants to flourish in a non-institutional, non-criminal setting.

Recognizing that high incarceration rates are both a cause and an effect of instability in communities, our work extends to include building resilience by increasing dialogue between community and police. We also support cross-cultural learning and communication by hosting culturally specific celebrations in prison, where all are invited to attend.

Our Impact

Going Home II helps incarcerated people prepare for and actualize a successful return to the community by providing tailored guidance and support through material resources, transitional housing, and personal and professional mentoring. The organization also works with community stakeholders and families to build resilience through relational repair.
